Fjellvang

Artist, Composer, Session Musician, Band Leader

Fjellvang has been a sought-after pianist, arranger and composer for many years. Until a five-year stint in the U.S. (2012-16), his work was primarily in television. Coming home to Norway, he started working at the Oslo cultural venue Jakob, gradually resuming his work as a pianist and artist. Friday, 31st May, he will release the debut album “Songs From The Reading Room” with the trio Fjellvang.

The trio consists of pianist/composer Thor-Erik Fjellvang, Jo Fougner Skaansar on double bass (known from his own projects + collabs with Lilja, Ine Hoem et al.) and drummer Hermund Nygård (The Real Thing, Anders Aarum Trio, Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen).

The songs and composition choices are inspired by Norwegian emigrants to the U.S. and their life stories: «The music draws inspiration from my meetings with some of the oldest Norwegian-Americans still residing in the NYC area, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, during my five-year stay in the city. This record attempts to capture what it feels like to long for a time and place you know in your heart does not exist if it ever did.
