About Us

daWorks Records AS was established spring of 2000 and has since been one of Norway’s most successful small indies focusing on popular music. The sister company daWorks Music Publishing was established in 2008. daWorks focus artist  and songwriter development in Norway for the Norwegian and international market.

The Founders

Jørn Dalchow (1967), partner/managing director
Jørn has experience from the Norwegian music business since 1986. Before he founded daWorks he worked 13 years in Norway’s largest record company PolyGram/Universal Music as product manager, product developer, marketing manager and A&R manager (Polydor). He is also a graphic designer and has designed more than 600 albums and 1.000 singles covers. In 1991 he established Norway’s first national Radio airplay chart, Radio Topp 30, together with David Fishel. In 2004 Jørn published the how to/reference-book about the Norwegian music industry, “Help, I’m in the pop business!”. He is also a much used music business lecturer.

Stein Berge Svendsen (1965), partner/composer/producer
Stein is one of Norway’s most experienced popular music composers og producers, and also one of Norway’s most sought-after score composers for film and tv productions. Since 1992 he has worked from his own studio, Amadeus Studio, which is now based in Lillehammer. Stein Berge Svendsen has his background from Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, with a major in film scoring. He has written and produced for Scanadinavian artists like Mette Hartmann, Kurt Nilsen, Jan Werner, Winta, Pernille Øiestad, Noora, Finn Kalvik, Van Eijk and Carola. He has also written several childrens musicals, musicals and  theatre music for the National Theatre in Oslo.

Jazz Black (1969), partner
Jazz is based in London with background as producer, songwriter and manager. He has worked with artists like Eternal, Hinda Hicks (“Best New Artist” and “Best Female Vocalist” nominee at the Brit Awards), Damage, Charlotte (ex. Soul II Soul) and Winta. In addition he has collaborated on a range of projects for Polydor, Sony and EMI in the UK. Jazz is also a sought after producer for music videos.
